Should I Upgrade my CPU or Motherboard, and how Urgently?

So roughly 4 years ago I bought a custom made, fairly low-spec PC for basic work. Since then, I've taken up some light gaming as a hobby, and now I'm wishing to boost my pc's performance. Originally, I bought the PC for AUD $880, and it had no GPU, an Intel core i3-4300m CPU, and an ASUS H18M-E motherboard. Last year, I added a GeForce GTX 960 (2GB overclock edition) gpu to boost my performance in games. Now, I am looking to upgrade my aging CPU or motherboard, however, I only have the budget to replace one, and even then, not with a high-spec replacement. If you couldn't tell before, I'm in Australia, and my rough budget (can be bent either way by maybe $50) is AUD $150. In addition to gaming, I also do some CAD design, however that is not the absolute topmost priority...

What I would ideally like to know is: to gain the maximum benefit, should I upgrade my CPU or Motherboard?
In your opinion/s, which is more important when it comes to overall performance and benefit?
Also, which one of my current setup is more 'outdated'?
Finally, it would be really appreciated as an extra if you could possibly recommend what you would consider the best motherboard/CPU around my budget range ($150 AUD).

Thanks in advance!

Don't upgrade either. It won't do you much good. Instead put the money in the bank and continue to save until you can replace both + the ram. That is a 4th gen i3 and a low end motherboard. A faster 4th gen CPU would drop in, but you would still be on 4th gen. Spending money to support a very old platform. A new motherboard will not do anything for you without a faster cpu.

So save up until you can afford an i5-8400 CPU and a corresponding motherboard along with some ram (ddr4 2400, for example). This would be a huge upgrade and is worth saving towards.

If you must buy now, go here:

Enter in your motherboard and it will show you compatible processors it finds for sale in Australia. You won't...
