Hi, I'm looking for a thinner fan for my large CoolMaster CPU Heatsink due to the fan now blocking 1 ram slot. The fan would be 120mm model and I generally like to buy high quality fans that are also as quiet as possible. I'm also not sure what sort of cut in airflow volume I would have to deal with by going with a fan that was thinner. If your curious, the motherboard is an Asus Z97M-Plus which sadly has the ram slots just a bit to close to the CPU. I won't be getting an mATX again, but at the time I was trying to make a computer that was lighter to move around.

Thanks!

Have you tried the mod's suggestion of raising the fan in the heat sink's slot in order to clear the RAM? That is the usual method of clearing tall RAM.

If all else fails, you can search for 120mm x 15mm fans and use one of those for the push side. Then add your orig. 25mm fan to the other side in the pull position. (The 212 EVO should have come with hardware for adding a 2nd fan) Chances are, the slim fan alone won't move enough air to do the job.

Wow good guess. I just found the box. Hyper 212 Evo. Only reason I didn't put that into the original post was that I would have had to shut down the computer and open it up just to have a chance at finding that out. I don't even know if the model type is printed on the thing. If I hadn't found this box I would have been looking through google images for all CoolMaster heatsinks. lol

The 2 sticks of RAM I have right now are Corsair PC3-10700 (667 Mhz) OC'able to 800 Mhz. Part number is CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9. They have pretty high heat spreaders. Here's a link to a picture of one I found off of Google.

My NEXT problem is that it doesn't seem that Corsair sells that specific part number anymore. It was made (according to CPU-Z) during Week 30, Year 2012. :/

I haven't tried it yet because I don't yet have RAM for the slot and I was to busy today to pull my computer out to try it out. I posted in the Memory forum asking for advice for ram that will likely work with mine since Corsair no longer makes what I currently have.
