Cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300
Mobo: FOXCONN MCP73M06 with on board gpu nvidia GeFore7050/nForce 610i
PSU: ATX 700w that comes with the case
Ram: 2gbDDR2
HDD: 250gb

I only have $100 to spend. Which is better to do?

Option 1: add 120GB SSD and 2gbRAM
Option 2: replace mobo and processor with these
Processor: AMD FM2 A4 6300
Motherboard: ASROCK FM2A68M-DG3+ MOTHERBOARD
Memory: 2gb ddr3

(Not sure if mobo and chip are compatible)

If option 2, will I need to reformat the HDD?

Solution
I will take option 1 because both are dead platform. Upgrade to FX6300 will gain some improvement but it is dead platform. SSD will help to open the application much faster than HDD and you can use again on your next system.. Addition 2 gig memory will be good also. If you pick AMD upgrade, then save money and go with Ryzen; don't upgrade to FX CPU.
