I've been into PC Gaming for more than a few years now and it's been some time since I've upgraded so I'm willing to spend $500 on a some new components.
It currently has:

  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce Gtx 970
CPU: AMD Fx 8350 @4.0GHZ (With Corsair H50 water cooling)
    RAM: 8gbs DDR3 @1600
    MOBO: M5a97 PRO
It's decent enough for most of the games I play but with my recently given Christmas cash ($500), I'm looking to upgrade some. I know it won't get much so I've been told to focus on CPU, MOBO, and RAM, since my GPU is somewhat okay for now.

Games I'm wanting to play are Battlefield 1 at max, PUBG at max, and Fortnite.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :D

Well 500 dollar are much.

It depends if you preffer Intel or AMD. I preffer AMD so I will give you suggestions about AMD.

With 500 dollars, you may go with an Ryzen 5 1600(x) or 1700(x) and overclock it later.

Motherboard:

Maybe the Asus-Prime B350 (Its a good one, but not one of the best). If the money allows it, you may go with an MSI x370 Gaming Pro or Gaming Plus.

Cooler:

If you take one of the X CPUS (1600x or 1700x) you wont get the stock cooler. If you take the ones with the stock, it should be enough to even overclock the CPUS, so thats good.

RAM:

16 GBS would be good, but 8 are also okey. You may take a look at Ballistix Sports, not the best, but cheaper.

Hope I could help so far.
