I am going to build a pc that can run all games at 1440p over 60fps in ultra/very high. The graphics card I will be getting is the strix GTX 1070 ti which I can over clock. What I don’t know about is the cpu. Before I was looking at the i5 8400 for $200 but now I see people saying spend the $275 and get the i5 8600k. Also since the 8600k doesn’t come with a fan I would have to buy that for another $30-$40. I was wondering if getting the 8600k, possibly over clocking that in the future, is worth the $100 more than 8400. My budget is not to strict but if I could save money that would be great. Thank you for your answers.

If you think you want to overclock and feel it is necessary go ahead with the 8600k, otherwise from the experience, the 8400 is plenty for gaming.

Overclock gives you extra performance for sure, but take the 8600k only if you are sure you are going to overclock. It can also be said it might be a bit more futureproof than the 8400.
