Computer doesn't recognize ethernet cable

I unplugged the ethernet cable from my computer to use on my xbox for a minute. Once i was done i plugged it back in but my computer is acting like nothing is plugged in. I reinstalled the drivers, restarted the computer but none of that worked. The ethernet cord works fine on the xbox and was working fine on the computer 10 minutes ago, any ideas?

Try a different cable? What's it being plugged into, a router? Reboot the router too.

when you connect your cable on the back of your PC? is it blinking 2 LEDS? yellow to green?

can you open your command console? (press winkey+xa) and type "ipconfig". can you tell me what you see? if it shows like DNS and IP address v4 and all that info then its working properly on your computer. try restarting your router. and see how it goes.

you can try the following checklist/troubleshooting fixes :

1. go to Window settings. go to update & security. troubleshoot. internet connections. run it.

Did you try the xbox a 2nd time or just assuming from when you switched? Possible with cable movement the wall end came out a bit. Hows the clips on both ends, they good?

In your Device Manager, does your network card show up under Network Adapters?

Yes the cable works still on the xbox, and the clip is fine on both ends.

this really sounds like a driver problem. are you sure you download and installed the proper driver from your motherboards website? go to you device manager and uninstall your realtek device. and reinstall it. im assuming you have win10 btw

See if changing router ports around gets you anywhere.

If it was working before i cant see how it could be drivers. Seems xbox has done something hopefully intermittent to that router port you're using. Reseting router if that were the case should have fixed it but maybe not.

I know it sounds stupid, but there isn't any debris like dust or anything that may have entered the port on the back of your computer when you unplugged the cable is there?

Well, i just reset the router again but to no avail. I changed to a couple of different ports but still, nothing.

heres another quickfix you can try.
open your command console as admin (press "winkey+xa"). type "netsh winsock reset". basically, this gives your internet settings a clean slate. and restart.

idk about this but there is an offchance some controller is probably doing weird stuff in your mobo. you can download your mobo's APP center which will check on your system for any updates required. (if you havent already)

you did say your XBOX connection works perfectly. so we can rule out the ethernet cable and the router.

can you open your console again and type "sfc /scannow". just wanna be sure we are not troubleshooting on top of a corrupted system.
