Hey guys. I just built a new gaming PC for Christmas. It features an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 paired with a GTX 1060 3gb. This is my 1st PC build, and I have never overclocked before. The motherboard I am using is a Gigabyte GA-AB350M Gaming 3 motherboard, and for RAM, I am using 8gb single channel Crucial DDR4 2400 Mhz. My goal is to get the CPU to 3.8 Ghz. I am running on the stock Wraith Stealth cooler. I ran Cinebench R15 and monitored temps, they never went above 40 degrees C. For overclocking, should 1.3 volts at 3.8 ghz be a safe bet for overclocking the R3 1200 to get a decent performance boost in games and productivity?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I am not worried about voiding the warranty, I bought a 2 year warranty on both the CPU and motherboard when I purchased them at Microcenter.

Solution

If you immediately reach instability, up the voltage to 1.35v-1.40v. If you still reach instability reduce the multiplier until stability is achieved at 1.4v.

Thanks! I think I'll give it a try. I'm excited to see just how much I can push out of this little $99 quad core.

Just as a follow up, I went ahead and tried it. As of now, the Ryzen 3 is running at 3.8 Ghz stable at 1.320 vcore. Before the OC my Cinebench r15 score was 471. After the overclock, the score went up to 573! Temps did not go above 60 degrees C, playing Overwatch yielded a small FPS increase. Thanks for the help!
