Hi guys,

This question must come up a lot but here it goes:

budget:
£1000-£1300ish.

Reason:
I'm looking to build a new pc for video editing that is very fast with moderate specs.

I want to optimise to get best performance with minimum noise as I do audio recording as well.

I also prefer smaller machines so have opted for a microATX which i'm hoping will not hamper my performance due to heat (I currently run a shuttle pc which is very small).

I generally update my machine every 5-8 years so trying to get best components to last and to work with potentially 4k or 8k video in future. That said, if i have over spec'd something that is not required or would not benefit me please advise.

Question:
I have never previous overclocked any of my machines, so please can you advise whether I should be going for basic 2666 or 3000 or 4000 ram = 4000 sounds awesome but not sure it is wise to overclock the board that much?

Also, is the cooler suitable for this setup? never needed to buy a cooler before.

This is the spec machine I am looking at:

processor: 8700k (£350)
memory: corsair ddr4 vengeance 2x8gb 3000mhz (£200)
case: Fractal Define Mini C (£60)
board asus rog strix z370-g (£180)
hdd: m2 960 256 (operations) (£110)
hdd2: m2 960 500gb (software/scratch) (£220)
(I plan to hold all non working files on a backup machine moving forward)
power: 550w-evga-supernova-g2-psu-fully-modular-80plus-gold (£80)
cooler: Corsair H100i GTX All In One Hydro Cooler (£80)
Total: £1280

Have I missed anything? This is first time buying any of the new intel range processors (i3/i5/i7) as i'm currently running core two duo, so any advice on whether this system will hold out or what i can do/spend to get better is appreciated.

For cost cutting I am not going down the 32gb ram route or getting larger hdds, I am also going to not use a separate GPU for now as I do not do gaming and will live without cuda on video editing due to budget. I can always buy one later. Not sure how much something like a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050TI 4gb 1430mhz would give me?

Date of purchase: next 3-5 days

location: UK

Don't need monitor as already have 2x 1080p for now.

Thanks in advance for your advice, looking forward to ordering my new machine in the January sales hopefully.
