I just built a brand new PC, but when I plug in the power cable and switch the PSU on, the motherboard's vanity lights automatically turn on (power button does nothing). Nothing else runs or turns on.

I have built PCs in the past with little to no issues, but this was the first build I had involving water cooling. I made sure to follow the manual very carefully since I'm so unfamiliar with it. The cooler may not be the issue, but it's definitely a possibility.

Specs:
Intel i5-8600k
ASUS Z270-A
TridentZ 16GB DDR4
Corsair H100i v2
GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
InLand PSU (550 W)
1 TB HDD (7200 RPM)
Windows 8.1
ThermalTake View 31 RGB

Solution
You can't use a Coffee Lake CPU on that mobo. They're not compatible with each other.

8th gen CPU's aren't backward compatible with 7th gen mobos

You'll have to replace the mobo with a Coffee Lake / Z370 mobo. Or replace the CPU with a Kaby Lake
