Solution
well for starters, gaming under Linux is limited to produced games for Linux or using Wine to run a windows game.
considering the computer you intend to use it on, I think it will be limited by your video card ... period.

what games did you have in mind ?

Linux Mint is popular, Zorin OS (Linux O/S) give the looks/menus of a Windows system, both have gaming Linux game sections

Any reason that you want to use linux for gaming? There aren't that much games for it and they don't run better than their windows counterpart (except for an exception or 2). Linux mint is my go to for linux for daily use.

Tbh it doesn't really matter which distro you take
just go with the distro you prefer the most after checking that your hardware and steam works on it.

But I also don't quite see why you'd want to use Linux that badly for gaming.
If you really want to use Linux then go ahead nobody will stop you but as the others already said the performance won't be better than on windows (exceptions prove the rule)
And you might encounter some driver issues using a distro that takes a while to update its packages or cuz the packages got updates too quickly causing instability...
Keep in mind that most games are tested and optimized for Windows and that you'll lose some performance using Wine or a VM to run your games
