A few weeks ago I went on a holiday and didn't use my pc for 8 days. When I came back everything was fine except that the speed of page loading, speedtests and video loading was around 10% of what it usually is. I tested my network, transfer between my pc and others on the LAN is perfectly fine, also download/upload speed is the one specified by my ISP, I used torrents to test it and sure enough, it all worked perfectly. The problem seems to be tied down to chrome, I tried everything: deleting browsing data, removing extensions, reinstalling, running as admin, adding exceptions in firewall (I use bitdefender firewall), disabling antivirus web checks but nothing worked. The speed in chrome is still way less than what it should be.
I ended up installing Firefox and these are the speedtest.net results on both browsers taken on the same machine, seconds apart (so they don't overlap and mess with one another).
Firefox: http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6920100296
Chrome: http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6920098312
I know the hosts of the speedtests are different but that is not the reason of the slowdown on chrome, believe me. I just can't figure out how to make it run at the normal speed again, and I can't imagine what on earth could be causing this slowdown. Thank you for your help.
