So.. I'm a little terrified about how to successfully pull this off. After reading several posts on this site I know to update the BIOS, Chipset, LAN, USB 3.1, and SATA (?) drivers. My board is http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/Z370-AORUS-Gaming-7-rev-10#support-dl

1) Do I updates these before I install the OS? Is there a particular order in which these are updated?

2) Under Chipset, LAN, SATA, on the Gigabyte site there are several updates. Do I update all of them or just a certain one?

3) I plan on downloading the updates to a thumb drive. Once downloaded, what are the steps to complete the update? Do I need to create a folder on the new computer and copy them there? Then click on them and they will auto load?

I'm really not clear on exactly which drivers within the above categories are the essential drivers I need, and once downloaded to the thumb drive, the process to complete the updates.

Thank you

If your network interface card driver is installed, you'll be able to get out to the internet. You can then download and install drivers from the manufacturer's website without the use of a flash drive.

With a new build I update the BIOS first. It might enable certain features that were not enabled when the mobo was manufactured or just give better component compatibility You can usually update your BIOS once your OS is installed or later in your PC life without issue but sometimes it reset your user setting and you have to redo them. I just save the hassle and get it done before installing an OS.

Windows will do its best to install all appropriate drivers during its install process. It should be enough to get your machine up and running. Some things it might struggle with like audio drivers or such like. Hopefully you'll have a functioning network device so you can download additional drivers. I usually go to my mobo support page and download all the drivers for my mobo and keep them handy on a memory stick. Windows usually copes with getting USB working so accessing the drive isn't usually a problem. I would then install ALL the manufacturer drivers starting with what I'd consider base drivers. Chipset, SATA, LAN. After that would be peripheral devices like audio chipset etc.

I have started to use a program called Driver Booster. It looks at your installed drivers and checks/downloads/installs any relevant new ones that you can decide upon. Mobo manufactures package up drivers for their boards but they might not have the latest in that package. Take audio drivers for example. Realtek may produce the chipset and provide the driver to ASUS/Gigabyte/MSI/etc who then put it on their support page for your particular mobo. Realtek may update their driver but it may be some time before your mobo manufacturer updates the driver on the support page. It's the same thing for GPU drivers. Do you use your GPU manufacturers driver from their site or do you go direct to Nvidia/AMD?

By updates I meant updated drivers, not Windows updates.
