i have WD Blue 1TB.. i recently noticed that my hard drive making a constant rattling sound when I'm watching a video on YouTube for example.

i know that the sound of HDD accessing data is normal, but this is something else, its a different constant noise. usually the sound is gone at idle.

something else i've noticed that when my graphics card isn't installed and I'm on integrated VGA this noise of HDD is completely gone. although my graphics card's fans isn't working so I'm 99.9% sure that this noise is coming from my HDD.

I've tried to perform chkdsk but nothing.. i can't understand why when i take my GPU out the rattling noise of HDD is gone.

Fan failure is pretty common, the only real thing you can do is acquire another CPU cooler. It's a good opportunity to get a decent aftermarket cooler or if you feel comfortable with the stock one they are often sold on ebay after people get new CPU's and don't use them.

Installing your GPU probably puts different proportional stress on the case.... Is the drive well secured?

Seriously though, why are you so sure it isn't a GPU fan... if your disk was rattling the head would be crashing and you'd notice.

i think the drive is well secured, but the GPU is very close to the HDD and there is no room between them, so the Sata power wires is kinda stuck between the HDD and GPU, it used to be that way since i build my PC though, and there was no noises.

I'm sure it isn't a GPU fan because simply the GPU fans does not spin at all, they are broken.

if it's that tight you might be forcing the drive cage up against the front fan or something.

There is no way your HD is rattling and still working. The tolerance just does not allow for it. At best you'll get some vibration from any hard disk which can be sent through the metal drive cage.

thank you, i'll try to install my HD in a different place away from the GPU and see what happens..
its not the familiar clicking sound of a failing HD, its kind of a rattling/vibrating/tapping noise, not that loud but noticeable.

i don't have a front fan.. so the logical explanation to that noise whether its coming from HD or motherboard..
and while i don't understand why would a motherboard make that noise when my GPU is installed, so its likely to be coming from my HD.

hello again, i have updates.. i unplugged my HDD and booted without a hard drive,GPU. the noise still there, its more clear and annoying with GPU installed though. it still coming from near the HDD/mobo area.

i made sure the noise isn't coming from the PSU itself, so its either the motherboard or the CPU, although my CPU temps are great at both idle/load.. and my mobo temps are 28c all the time. CPU Fan Rpm seems to be normal as usual.

could a motherboard make noises like this? .if yes, what is the reason?.

i think i figured out the cause.. when i opened my case and put it on its side i've noticed that the CPU fan blades are kinda touching the heat sink and i can't hold it up, its kinda loose. so when i spun the fan with my hand it made a rattling noise.

however when the case is on its feet, spinning the fan with hand does not make any rattling noise.. i cleaned it a bit and tried to pull the fan blades away from the heat sink.. powered on my PC and there was no noise for about 30 minutes..

and then the rattling noise came back again.. any idea what can i do?.. the fan is the stock of intel i5 CPU.

thank you.. i will keep that in mind, but i just needed a temporarily solution for a few months.. so i was thinking of oiling the fan i don't know if thats going to work.. but i've tried something, i tilt the case a little bit on its side forward and it has been 4 hours now without the noise, i don't know why it stopped by just tilting the case.. so hoping this will make it last longer.
