I'm looking at upgrading my graphics card but I'm not sure what the best card to get would be. I don't want to end up buying a really expensive card when it will bottleneck with my i5-3470. Right now I have a GTX 650

Solution
Don't worry about bottlenecking.

What framerates can your CPU output in the games you play? You can test by going into the games you play, and turning the resolution as low as possible (eg. 480p), and graphical settings as low as possible (beside draw distance), and observe the framerate. This should be your CPU's potential performance (unless your GPU is still bottlenecking).

What graphical settings and resolution do you wish to play at in the games you play? Theoretically any GPU can perform to any framerate target, with the difference being the graphical settings and resolution used. For example a GTX 1050ti may perform 60FPS at 1080p, medium settings, while a GTX 1080ti could perform 60FPS at 4k, high settings.
