New GPU wont pass BIOS screen

Hello, i recently got a gift from a friend, a GTX 1050 TI 2gb DDR5, the problem is that when i try and connect it it wont past BIOS. Well what comes after the bios is just darkness. So i really like to know what's happening, i saw some similar cases where the solution was update BIOS (mine's currently at F5) but at the same time i saw some comments on how in some cases updating the bios will render the PC useless so i would like some opinions on what should i do and if it is really my BIOS problem or if it's got something to do with my PC wich is quite outdated

My specs are

Motherboard: GIGABYTE H61m-S1 2.0

Memory: 8GB ram DDR3

GPU: AMD HD 6670

Processor: Intel I3 2120

PS: Sentey BXP600

I wold keep away from a beta BIOS, F9 will be good. There is very little chance of harming the motherboard during a BIOS update. Not 0 chance, but low enough that I have never worried about it. I think in 30 years of working with computers I may have one one BIOS update fail where it actually made the motherboard unusable and that was probably well over 10 years ago when you did them with floppy disks that themselves were not very reliable.

If there is a newer BIOS for your system, run the update. Just make sure you don't turn off the computer in the middle of it.

Your power supply is also an issue, it is low quality, and even though the 1050 Ti does not use a lot of power, the power supply may be an issue.

Also was this gift a new or used card? Do you know if the card was good to begin with?

Hello thank you for the response.

First the card is a new one that my friend gave me, and it came with a power suply Sentey BXP600 wich apparently isn't supposed to have any complications with the GPU. So you're saying that i should update the BIOS, im currently at version F5 and the most recent update is on f10 but it's a beta and most of the people i spoke with told me that f9 is the way to go.

Plus this person in the video has the exact same problem as i do with almost the exact same motherboard and solves the problem updating his BIOS to f9 [video="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKTNwboL9Ho"][/video]

Im asking too much about this subject because i've never done anything like this and im too scared of bricking my motherboard

Well, i appreciate the response, really. You gave me some confidence to actually do it.

One last thing, the procedure to do this is get for example a USB in FAT32 get the update from the page into the USB and load it with the BIOS Q-Flash ?

Yes looks like that motherboard does not have a Windows utility for flashing the bios, at least not one that is compatible with 64 bit Windows.

Make a boot disk, boot off that, and place the files from the BIOS download in the disk. You should have a few, autoexec.bat, efiflash.exe and the BIOS file ending in .f9. The command to flash the BIOS is in the .bat file and should run when the system boots off the disk.
