Hi, I recently bought a 1070 TI and am currently being limited because of my CPU. In GTA V my GPU usage maxes at 40% where my CPU usage gets to 100% and crashes the game. I need help looking for a cheap, effective upgrade that will last me at least a couple of years. I'm sure I will need a new motherboard and RAM so recommendation for those would be appreciated. Here is my parts list:

CPU: Intel - Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard: MSI - B85M GAMING Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB DUKE Video Card

Case: Cooler Master - N200 MicroATX Mini Tower Case

Power Supply: EVGA - 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Thanks!

You don't need a GPU upgrade. That's plain.

Without changing motherboard you could upgrade the CPU to a i7 model. How cost effective an improvement that would depend on the price of the CPU vs New motherboard/ram/cpu for a platform upgrade. It would be the cheaper option to upgrade just the processor of course, but you need to balance the price vs the longevity.

How long a i7-4770k will last is hard to say. I have one, and it's not causing me any problems right now. So I expect it would be fine for 2 years minimum before it becomes a noticeable issue. A whole platform upgrade to the latest would give you at least 5 years.

Both the i7-4770k and i7-4790k should be compatible with your motherboard, but do check the specification on the manufacturers site. Those processes are selling for a premium right now for exactly the reason that it makes sense for you, it makes sense for lots of people. So demand it high and as they aren't made any more supply is limited. They are the last stop before a platform change for many people.

Perhaps the most effective upgrade you could do is add an SSD to your system. Cheap to add and a noticeable upgrade too. The other thing to consider is memory. 8 GB is the bare minimum now. Memory prices are high at the moment though.

So, there you have it. The best upgrade would be to change Motherboard, Ram, CPU and add an SSD. The cheapest would be to add an SSD only. The sweet-spot for you I think would be to a) SSD; b) RAM; c) CPU. In that order, and there no need to rush in on the last two. Keep checking prices and ebay to get a good deal.
