I'm setting up a small repair station with an ESD mat and wrist strap. The problem is there's not an outlet nearby to connect to ground or anything else grounded due to permanent fixtures/furniture. There is a PC near the station that is always on. Could I safely connect the ESD ground cable to one of the screws on the PSU of that PC while it is on for a ground connection? It is bare metal, not painted. I read about people using the PSU for a ground, but they all say to have the PSU switched off. I wouldn't be working on the internals of that PC, just borrowing its ground connection.

As long as the PC is connected to a properly grounded outlet (3-prong outlet), a bare metal portion of the case (e.g. a screw in the metal chassis) would be fine to use as an ESD ground.
