id rather go for the nongsync 1080ti. you dont need the extra monitor boost with a high-end card. ive tried my friends gsync monitor. yes its good. but ive always been happy with my freesync monitors. saves lots of money. and never had a tear. (was that a pun intended? :D)

I HIGHLY advise AGAINST acer predator products. Acer tends to use a lot of off-brand and cheap parts to build all of their PC's and such. As for G-sync, its a joke. Not worth the money at all. Just get one with freesync. LG makes really nice 144hz in 1080 widescreen. I'm not sure about 2k, but they might have some. As for the 1070 and 144hz, you will struggle to find games that you can run on max settings in 144hz. Lower GPU demanding games such as Counter Strike or other source engine games will do that just fine. I recently upgraded from a 970 to a 1080ti so I could run Crisis 3 Max settings at 144hz. Hope this helps.

I'm not saying theres anything wrong with gsync. Its just not worth the extra money.

It's worth the money if you are determined to buy an NVidia card. It certainly doesn't help you play better in multiplayer games but in single player you can turn everything to max and not worry about tearing and it just feel nicer. Now it's not better than Freesync but you need an AMD card to use Freesync.

If GPUs weren't in stupid mode right now (literally couldn't get a 1070 today if I was willing to pay $1000 or a Vega for $1500) I's say yah, buy AMD and Freesync. If you don't need adaptive sync at all pick up somehtign with 144hz and it'll work fine with either. There's only a $50 price premium on Freesync over no0sync so you don;t take much hit useing Freesync with NVidia cards either.

As a side note: 2K is 1080p (roughly. technically 2048*1080 according to Digital Cinema spec). 1440p or QHD is actually 2.5K (2560*1440) and almost double the pixel count of 2K. The whole idea of using one number (the horizontal pixel count) is silly and lazy since we have multiple aspect rations out there and we really should always state computer graphic resolutions in both dimensions in my opinion. That said if you actually mean 1080p you are in total overkill mode with even a 1070ti, I run a 165hz 1440p Gsync screen with a 1070 just fine; I prefer lower settings in multiplayer games anyways so I get 120+ and in single player 80FPS is good enough so I can crank the settings for immersion.

Both the monitors you put forward are 2560*1440 (2.5K if you have to use "K" as a measure). I Would buy the 144Hz one over the other for gaming without question regardless of GPU. Your monitor should last 5 years or more...buy a good one. You might buy a new GPU in 6 months.

Exactly, freesync is for AMD cards only, gsync is for Nvidia cards only. Keep that in mind when buying

The XB271HU IPS version is one of the best rated monitors ever produced it's almost the exact same monitor as an: ASUS PG279Q. Just be careful because there are also TN versions of it for cheaper with the Abmiprz tag in the model number that are the same as ASUS PG278QR. Although the TN versions are even faster the color is worse....up to you I guess on that.

I play on a monitor with freesync, with a 1080ti and I play Crisis 3 on 4k max settings and never get a tear.

I suspect you do get tears and don't notice or you have a 60FPS cap (or Vsync on). NVidia cards don't use Freesync period so you are running it with no adaptive sync at a fixed refresh rate (60Hz).

80fps and yeah, Vsync on. Whats wrong with Vsync? a 1080ti can easily handle that additional load that a vsync would come with

You're running one of those Korean monitors? Nothing wrong with Vsync. The point is that Freesync does not work with NVidia graphics so you paid (not very much but still something) for an adaptive sync feature you can't use. Freesync is AMD only, Gsync is NVidia only. Telling people to buy Freesync monitors for their NVidia GPUs without spelling out that fact is bad advice. Yes it will run, yes, if you are running a 1080Ti with Vsync it will look fine..no the Freesync won't do anything though.

If the OPs only options are the two he presented he should go with the Gsync option. Going 60Hz 1440p with a 1080Ti is plain silly. There are probably better options than both though.

Freesync is general cheaper than Gsync is. Hence, why I suggested Freesync since the Extra money isn't worth getting Gsync. And no, I have an LG 34 inch 1080 widescreen 144hz monitor as my main.

Why on earth do you have a 1080ti and playing on a 1080p monitor? Do you know how much overkill that is?

But you have a 1080p monitor, not a 4k monitor

Dual monitors (or more) and money, I still run a no-sync 144 TN 1080 panel for a lot of multiplayer because it's faster than my IPS 1440 panel.

The 4K monitor (if it runs at 80Hz) is an overclocked Korean model, maybe AOC, though. That's fine if you are into that stuff (and since 60FPS really does suck once you've seen the light of higher frame rates) but not the kind of thing to recommend to someone when you are unaware of their level of tech savvy. I'd pick some variation of the first option; pretty damn good GPU with a Gsync monitor for when it can't quite make the 144FPS. There are cheaper options than ASUS that are just as good though.

On a related note where are you seeing a 1070Ti in stock for $500????? Buy me three I'll pay you back??
