PC upgrades looking to epgrade either my GPU or CPU I have a core i3 7100 and a zotac gtx1050 mini (2gb) I play fortnight, battlefield 1, black ops 3, CS GO,

I also have a 1080p 144hz freesync monitor if you could suggest a specific CPU or GPU model to upgrade to that would be very helpfull

Solution

Well your 7100 will definitely prevent you averaging anything close to 100fps in BF1, its very cpu heavy and benefits from having more than 4 threads.

Anyway here is how the 480 holds up.

To take full advantage of a 144Hz monitor you want to be pushing 100+ fps and to do that properly you need to upgrade both.

If you can only upgrade one then upgrade the cpu (what motherboard do you have?). At least you can turn the game settings down to low which will help the 1050 get higher fps. Turning the settings down won't help the cpu very much.

When you upgrade your gpu you really want to go AMD to take advantage of Freesync that your monitor has.

GTX 1060 6 gb would be a fine upgrade. although your cpu may bottleneck the GPU in some games like GTA 5 and other cpu demanding games. CPU is still very important because if your GPU is bad you can still reduce the settings but if your CPU cant handle the game you have to replace is or just stop playing the game.

Because you have freesync I wouldn't go GTX1060 as it cannot use freesync, 580 would be a better option but a little weak for 1080p 144Hz. You could look at Vega 56 or 64.

For cpu you want 7700, an i5 just isn't a big enough upgrade IMO and some newer games really benefit from more than 4 threads when going for high fps.

Yes but i said gtx 1060 because the one that you recommended is much more expensive and im sure that he doesnt have that much budget.
