I have upgraded my PC quite simply but we are having an issue with his motherboard socket and CPU. I would like to get the go-ahead from someone more intelligent then me who knows more about building computers. We just really need more motherboard recommendations that are compatible with the build.
--Motherboard hes thinking about getting (MSI B250M GAMING PRO LGA 1151 Intel B250 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Micro ATX Motherboards)
--New CPU: Intel® - Core i7-7700 Quad-Core 3.6 GHz
--Old CPU: INTEL CORE I3 3220 3.30 GHZ
--Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin
--GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mini, 4GB GDDR5 DisplayPort 128-bit Gaming Graphic Card

Solution

Wait, does he have that B250 motherboard? Because if he does his 3220 and/or the 3770 WILL NOT work in it. Don't try to install and run it either you could damage the pins. The 7700 will work in it.

I told him this, he is going to return the processor for a INTEL i7-3770 Quad Core (8-Thread) 3.4 - 3.9GHz and stick with the Ram he has now.

OK but I don't think that'll be cheap from a shop as the cpu will be hard to find as it's end of line. You might want to try ebay for someone who's upgrading as a stop gap to a new system.
