I know very little about specifically gaming headsets, but I would know exactly what I was doing if I was going to spend $300 for anything that has 3.5 stars on amazon.

I've done no research, but I would guess that what I would discover is that my preference would be to get something akin to a v-moda boompro, and buy a tried and true pair of actual headphones. Though, you know your needs and preferences best.

If it needs to be one or the other, I'm not doing the research, but I'd say go with the a50, on the basis that it appears to be stocked by monoprice, who I like.
