Yes. The 5930k I mentioned above is (like the 8700k) 6-core with hyper threading. The 5930k runs hotter, so anything that works on a 5930k would also work on a 8700k .
However if you are buying new, get the slightly better nh-d15s.

problem is i have rgb ram and the 15s will cover it

Actually, the 8700K runs hotter due to having a smaller die and using thermal paste instead of solder.

 


That is true but your conclusion is inaccurate. I have one of each. The 5930k generally thermals at 4.4-4.5ghz while the 8700k thermals at around 4.9-5ghz. Also the 5930k has a TDP of 140w while the 8700k has a TDP of 95w. Meaning th 8700k not only can OC higher with the same cooling, it also uses 47.4% less power.
 


I use LPX as it allows for better cooling. I want my PC to run as well as possible. Blinking lights and case-windows annoy me.
