Hello,

I am getting really poor performance (feels like <5 fps, really choppy) on some games such as dark souls 3 and the witcher 3 with my new desktop, spec below.

Intel Core i5 7400 3.5Ghz Quad Core CPU
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 4K VR Ready Graphics Card
8GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
1TB Hard Drive
500W PSU Bronze Rated

Can anyone suggest what could be causing it? Sorry for using laptop tech support - I did not see any other relevant forum!

Thanks,
Stuart

if you are not used to tweaking your graphics settings manually in your games, try using geforce experience to let it auto optimize your games for you. someimtes its not 100% accurate so if it still lags then slide it more towards performance instead of quality.

you can also tell your computer to use more power on demand by doing the following :

open nvidia contorl panel. 3d graphics. global. power management to adaptive/high. tripe buffering to on.
open windows power plan and set it to high performance.
disable superfetch. press win+r. type "services.msc". find superfetch service. and stop it. disable.

restart. and see how it goes. the last step is just a windows tweak since its reported that most games appear buggy withi this...

if still not working in your favor you can try to download DDU, run it in safemode clean. restart in normal mode. install latest nvidia driver. restart. there are bugs related to improper updates of nvidia. so this may or may not fix your graphics issues.

also maybe try purchasing a 2x8Gb instead. or purchasing an additional 8GB 2400 stick. RAM intensive games will benefit from your memory bandwidth with the dual channel activated on your board. so check your motherboard specs and see what RAMs are compatible.

also make sure you have the latest drivers on yoru system. check your motherboards support site. usualy they have a tool to check driver updates for you. outdated drivers can cause your system to slow down or underperform.

if none of the above works, there could be bugs on the game itself. like memory leaks commonly. so check on the games support site and see what others are experiencing as well as it can be a common issue specific to the game. or there is a hardware that is bottlenecking your system or high temps making it to underperform.
