So I’ll keep this short, I currently have an AMD FX 6300, 500w power supply (that I have researched, can handle a i7 7700k) a GTX 970 and 8GB of DDR3.

But I want to upgrade,
What would be the cheapest but most efficient parts to purchase when I plan to upgrade to an i7 8700k.
I don’t know what RAM, MOBO etc I need and if I do, I’m afraid I’ll buy a stupidly overpriced one.

Help me guys!
By the way, gaming and video/ photo editing are my main uses of the PC, and web browsing of course.

You need a Z370 mobo for an I7 8700. But you can't use the I7-7700k on a Coffee Lake mobo

Theyre not compatible with each other.

So if you buy a 7700k, you'll have to buy a Skylake or Kaby Lake Socket 1151 mobo.

But if you want to buy the I7 8700 CPU then you'll have to buy another Socket 1151 mobo as well

What 500W PSU do you have and how old is it.?

So you want to build an I7 8700K gaming machine....

Ok what is your budget?

I am assuming you plan on using your GTX 970.

You will need a CPU, Cooler, MB (Z370), RAM and a PSU (A good quality 550W Min) at min and a case if you don't like your current one or want a new one.
