How can I change the name of a hard drive?
I'm not talking about the drive letter or the name that shows up in windows such as local disk or whatever.

I want to change the actual name of the hard drive. Ex: right now it's Toshiba-something. I want to change that name

Solution
There is no way that cloning would also clone the hardware ID (firmware) as shown, for example, in the 'Drives' section of Device Manager. That definitely can't be changed.

Yes. Exactly. I want to change the manufacturer name. While cloning a drive, the name of the new drive got overwritten with the old drives name.

I tried changing the friendlyname through regedit but that didn't work. The drive still showed up in my boot manager with the wrong name

I dont think that's what they are talking about. "I'm not talking about the drive letter or the name that shows up in windows such as local disk or whatever. "

They want to change the name the manufactuere gave the drive. Like in task manager.

What do you mean by "wrong name"? If the name that shows up matches the name on the physical label on the drive itself, then it's already the "right name".

If you mean that the new physical drive doesn't have the same brand/model name as the old physical drive, 1) that's because you didn't buy the exact model of drive unit, & 2) should not even be an issue you need to worry about.
