Hello, i am trying to upgrade from 4 gig to 8 gig ram. I have tried both slots individually with one of the two matching ram sticks that i bought according to mother board compatibility. Both sticks work well as ive tried them both in both slots. So both sticks are health and both slots are healthy. But my computer isnt booting up with both of them in.I researched my motherboard and it can go up to 8 gig. So im not sure why it isn't working. Please can someone help, thank you very much

Memory is guaranteed in the form sold. Matching identical part numbers carries no guarantee to be compatible. Modules sold as single modules are not meant to be combined.

Since the modules were never tested together, you are the first to test their compatibility.

Guaranteed combinations are sold in kits.

two single sticks. if what keatingscool is correct then this must be the problem. Its a shame coz i usedhttp://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner to make sure i bought the correct ram )-:

You can run faster ram at slower speeds no problem, that's called downclocking.
Getting un-matched ram to work together is problematical at best, impossible at worst. Even when they both have the same manufacturer, have the same timings, voltages, etc. unless they were made as close as possible to the same time frame, you can have issues getting them to work together.

They sell ram in matched kits for a reason.

I've had a closer look and it turns out one slot does indeed not work. Both Rams are healthy and compatible but one slot doesn't work with either on its own. I've tried all the usual suggestions for a non functional slot such as cleaning it and clearing cmos. Any suggestions?
