CPU fan not detected on boot

I have a three month old build that has been working like a charm until now.

Over the period of Christmas the PC was off for a few days and when I powered back on today I got a ‘CPU fan not detected’ error on the bios boot screen, and am unable to boot in OS.

Using a ROG Maximus XI Hero (bios up to date), i7 7700k and a corsair h115 liquid cooler.

Temps spike soon after boot to 70-80 degrees and I switch off soon after to avoid it getting any higher so even software troubleshooting is difficult with just a couple of minutes before temps skyrocket!

I played around with fan inputs on the motherboard with no luck. I switched a case fan with the cpu fan. In both cases all fans seem to work the cooler just doesn’t seem to deliver any cooling looking at the high temperatures. I can’t hear or feel the pump doing anything noticable but then again I never did even when i could boot and temps were normal.

Could inactivity cause issues with liquid cooling? I wouldn’t think so after just less than a week of being off. Is the h115 pump dead?

It just makes me wonder what would affect it without the PC being used.

Any help would be much appreciated as this is my work PC :(
