Hi,

I recently purchased Edimax EW-7811Un 150mbps usb adapter. I am using it for my desktop Dell optiplex 7010 i7 (this has usb 3.0 along with usb 2.0 port). It is not giving me good speed. I hardly get 10 mbps downspeed. My macbook pro laptop gives me around 40 mbps.

My desktop is in my bedroom, If I move my desktop to living where router and modem are located, I see good increase in speed. I cannot keep my desktop in living room.

I use NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700) and ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Can you please advise me what could be the solution.

Thanks in Advance.

Your problem is you purchased a device that is primarily designed to be small and portable. These very tiny device have small antenna and tend to be lower power to conserve battery. In addition you now have almost enclosed the device inside a big metal case further blocking the antenna.

The only thing you can do to somewhat improve the signal is to use a usb extension cable. This will allow you to move the device away from the metal case and maybe get better signal.
