Hello,

I'm looking for a motherboard with the 990FX northbridge capable of having 64GB RAM. First off, some FAQ because I want to shoot down impending non-answers:

Q. Why 64 GB RAM?
A. Lots of VMs, fast compilation environments for huge projects (like Chromium and the entire FreeBSD world) and ZFS storage coupled with RAID10.

Q. Why won't you just get a better CPU with boards speculated to support 128GB RAM then?
A. I want to stay on AM3+ unless you convince me otherwise that buying a new CPU, new motherboard and DDR4 RAM will cost less than buying a new motherboard and more DDR3 RAM. I already have FX-8350 and I do not want to step down from this amount of cores or power.

Q. *anything mentioning Intel*
A. I'm running a personal computer, not a honeypot.

Q. Why don't you then get an Opteron?
A. I don't have enough desk space for a rack. Also, I smoke too much at the desk to let the thing lie across the desk where I smoke and there is sometimes hot ash falling on the desk from my cigarettes. I can't keep the whole thing on the ground either, because I have unusual animals that can hurt themselves and the computer if they mess with it.

Are there any models confirmed to work with 64GB RAM?

Asrock has a couple of 990FX mobos that indicate support for 64GB of memory:

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme9/

Good luck.

If you are planing to get 1 of them boards, I highly recommend you stay way from the Extreme 3 if you are running an 8 core, The Extreme 3 only has a 4+1 phase and they are known to have issues with the 8 cores even at stock. The other 2 are really good boards, I had the Extreme 3 which had a hard time with the FX8320 at stock and moved to the 990FX Fatality Professional which has 12+2 phase, about the same at the Extreme 9, which allow for some heavy overclocking, The Killer has a 8+2 Phase design and is usually cheaper.
