Hi there, I recently got a set of 2 x 8gb Corsair Vengence 2400MHz RAM for my Z97 based system, (i7 4790K and Gigabyte Z97 D3H) I enabled XMP and realised a great performance boost in my Flight Simulator (P3D) by about 20FPS, seems hard to believe I know. All was going well for 20 minutes until I had a BSOD. So I decided to dial back the XMP profile back to 1333MHz. Launched again and everything is fine. I then tried a manual overclock of 2000MHz, which was more stable and for longer, say around 40 minutes. I'm pretty new to overclocking RAM so I would like some help. Even to gain stability at 2000MHz would be fantastic as there was no real difference between 2000MHz and 2400MHz on my machine.

Solution

Set it just like that in BIOS but the speed to 2133.
Do the 1.66 volts.
You should of bought the 2133 1.5 volt memory to begin with it gives you more room to tweak the voltage.

My Memory is the Corsair Vengence 2 x 8gb sticks @ 2400MHz, timings are 11-13-13-31 and the XMP volts is @ 1.65. My motherboard is only able to do 1.64 and 1.66 in the bios.

I will try to set a higher SA Voltage now and I will report back. Considering the D3H from the Z97 line-up is in the "Ultra-Durable" pack I would say it should be ok but I could be wrong. :) Thanks

it has extremely anemic VRM which is responsible for supplying power to CPU.
I wouldn't dare to overclock on it.

I'll probably just leave my RAM alone at this time and wait till the summer when I can get a fancy new Intel chip and a much better mobo. Thanks for your time tonight :D
