Phone to Phone OTG Charging

I have an OTG cable and an android phone of the same brand, when I plug the type c end into my phone and the other, i plug the cable the phone came with which is plugged into another phone, why does it not charge? I have seen many places who say it works but it doesnt for me, if there only specific otg cables which allow charge transfer or is there a setting which I am unaware of which would allow this to work?

the port is not designed to output the charge.

never seen anyone say they were able to do this but i assume the phone would have to be rooted and somehow that port has to be enabled to output the charge to the second phone for it to work. i'd go back and look again at whatever it was you saw saying ti worked and see how they claim to have done it.

why not just plug the second phone in directly and avoid the strange set-up?

I just wanted to see if I could use my phone as a power bank as most of my friends phones go out of battery a lot quicker than mine and we are normally out and about when they need to charge.

I have the OnePlus 5t and I was using a OnePlus 3 as the second phone

makes sense. rather nice of you to offer to be a power brick for your friends. not sure i'm that nice :D
