Worth buying a new GPU?

My current rig is an AMD Radeon HD 7700 series, and I'm looking to upgrade to a GTX 1060, however my processor is only an AMD FX 8300. I can't upgrade the CPU without buying a new mobo, and don't want to spend money on a new mobo. Is it worth upgrading to a 1060 without getting a new cpu?

tl;dr - Have old/mediocre cpu/gpu - is it worth upgrading a gpu and leaving cpu the same

I'd do it. While it's true you won't get every frame per second out of the 1060 that you would with a faster CPU, you would get enough to make many games playable. Right now there are games you could enjoy if you weren't stuck with an HD 77xx series card. Getting a 1060 fixes that problem.

A bottleneck isn't necessarily a bad thing. Example:
You want 60fps in game. One CPU uses a 1060 and gets you 60fps in the game. Another CPU uses the same card and gets you 85fps in the same game. The 1050 Ti would get you 45fps in the same game. Obviously with the first CPU there is a bottleneck. However, you still get the 60fps you want with that 1060. The 1050 Ti does not get you there, so even though it costs less it's still not worth buying for your usage.

Doesnt work that way. When the cpu is same, the 1050ti and the 1060 will both give you same kind of FPS where the cpu reaches its 100% limit and there is no more room for either card to perform as the cpu bottlenecks them beyond that point. The faster card cannot necessarily offset the compute load of the cpu any better just because it is has more cudas.
