ISSUE: All PC games whether ran through steam or with the Geforce experience overlay constantly freeze within 2 to 5 minutes of playing any game.

GTX 970 was replaced with GTX 1070 in Sept 2017. Thermal paste was newly applied in Oct 2017 along with a new power supply (original one was a EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W, 3 Year Warranty, Includes FREE Power On Self Tester, Power Supply 100-B1-0600-KR (I still have it)) Nothing was wrong with the original one, I just wanted to replace it. In Dec 2017, Project cars 2 started to freeze constantly after 5 minutes but it did not happen with any other game. Dusted out computer last week with compressed air for electronics. All games worked fine although I did not try Project Cars 2. This week however all games started to freeze beginning with DOOM then literally every other game and seemed to get worse as when I was playing DOOM it took 15 minutes for it to freeze and then the next day it took 5 minutes to do it. Tired playing DIRT Rally, which worked fine last week, now it crashes under 5 minutes.

Solutions tired this week after freezing:
Updated BIOS to f23c version
Downloaded Driver talent and CPU-Z
Did a few benchmarks with everything going normal
Turned off integrated graphics in BIOS
Turned off power saving on GPU
Went to control panel to check memory – no issue reported
Checked all drivers – no issue reported
Downloaded MSI Afterburner, tried project cars 2 with this program to check temps in game and GPU reached 68 Celsius then game froze (this was never an issue before with the temps being this high) CPU cores were running almost 80 Celsius during this time. I also notice there was a POWER limit icon coming up

None of these solutions worked

Should I A) replace thermal paste B) reinstall old power supply, the 600watt one C) uninstall and reinstall Windows 10 D) Start to replace parts or E) any other suggestions?

I checked the ram memory yesterday and it said there were no issues. Right now I’m currently checking the HDDs with the WD utility to see if anything comes up. I’ll let you know what the test reports when it’s finished.

As for the temps they seem pretty high for the cpu itself. They reach about 80 Celsius but the one thing I don’t understand is the that power limit alert which I search yesterday and the source said it has to do with the power distribution between the GPU and the motherboard.

80C is not very high temp so games or pc should never freeze due to that..

you can check logs
press winkey+s. type event viewer. custom views. adminsitrative. scroll down the times of your freeze. check to see any errors within a minute timespan around it. your freezes may be caused by some driver/software issues.

test your RAM.
faulty/incompatible RAM can cause your system to freeze. you can try using memtest86. you can also try using just 1 stick for a day. and play some games. also do the same with the other.

check your HDD.
bad sectors can cause your system to freeze up. download this tool to check on the current health status of your drive.just pick the ZIP file. and extract and run the 64-bit version. check to see if there are any yellow marks on your HDD health status.

if you dont have SMART enabled, just do a "chkdsk /f /x"

Hey thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. The hdd was fine. I ended up replacing the power supply with my old one and now the games stop freezing. Turns out whatever that limit power warning things was, was the issue and was referring to the power supply itself.
