Crucial or Corsair?

Hello.

This may seem very dim, but I am looking at a cpu, mbu and ram bundle. One of the systems has corsair 16gb ram 3000MHz and for a little less 16gb 24000 MHz by crucial. The crucial ram doesn't have the black case ecstatic of the corsair ram (a more green fibreglass board). This is the stupid part... to a complete PC novice I would be inclined to say that the corsair is the better Ram (irespecitve of clock speed) purely due to the fact that it has a nicer shell/exterior. Is this the case or is it just that the casing is the only difference?

No flame please! ;) Cheers

Crucial and Corsair are both very much respected in all areas that they deal in. Crucial tends to be better "bang for buck" than most companies. This choice would be purely down to personal preference and no company has major advantages over the over for RAM. If you are looking at a Ryzen CPU then the 3000mhz RAM will be good for the CPU if not then there really is not any major feature to persuade one from the other.

If the speed is not a concern, then reliability wise, there is no difference. both have a lifetime warranty. As speed is not a concern, you appear to prefer form over function, so the Corsair ram is "better". Price-wise, the Crucial is better.

Crucial or more accurately micron manufactures a lot of the DRAM corsair uses, corsair does not manufacture DRAM only a few company's in the world do such a micron, samsung, and sk hynix. The "best" RAM sticks meaning sticks capable of the highest speeds and lowest timings tend to be using Samsung B die IC modules.

So to some it up the shell is just that, a shell. It does not mean whats under the hood is any good. That said a 3000mhz kit is faster than a 2400mhz kit.

I am planning to have a I5 7600k with a gtx 1070 dual 8gb. I'm thinking the 16gb would defo be safer over the 8gb. And in terms of speed would it be fairly minimal affect?

WAY too expensive for what you are getting in my opinion. This below is a newer coffee lake build with a 6 core processor, it will stay relevant much longer than a quad core kaby lake i5.
