Let me start by saying I have a fairly high level of Knowledge/Experience in regards to TECH products, Computers, networking, etc. I am unfamiliar with Xirrus APs though.

A friend of mine that works a low level IT position recently aquired a couple Xirrus XN8s and a couple XN4s from his employer as they recently overhauled their wireless networks. He does not really have much, if any, networking knowledge or experience therefore his advice is irrelevant. He does not even have internet at his house therefore all of the APs he has are currently unused. He has offered to give me 2 of the 4 APs free of charge.

What should I choose? Two XN8s or Two XN4s or One of each? I will be using them to expand my home network as well as for experimentation. I could not find much info on the XN8. What are the differences between the XN4 and the XN8? What should my 2 choices be?

Here is why the business got rid of the devices -- https://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/XN-End-Of-Life-Announcement1MAR13.pdf They are no longer supported. They are 5 year old WIFI devices. They may be free, but I don't think I would take them. They are "N" standard APs with limited support and limited user group support. They have sold for as little as $20 on E-Bay, so you aren't passing up a treasure trove. I would pass.
