i have just built my pc and is just wondering about the disk i got with my Gigabyte motherboard and asus 1070 gpu. do i need the disk or do i have to buy the optical drive

You don't need a disk you can download the drivers on another machine to a small USB thumb drive and install them like that. Once your internet is up and running download the rest from the manufacturers sites.
