Installation of nvme ssd has caused my gpu to not run at full speed

Hello -

I just upgraded to an nvme ssd (Samsung 960 evo) and now my gpu is not running at its full speed - it’s not being fullly utilized.

Is it because of a lack of pcie lanes?
I thought a 7600k had more than 16.

Specs:
i5-7600k
Gtx 1060 6gb
Samsung 969 evo
Asus Strix z270e

How did you install the Nvm-e drive? Which slot? The 7600k does has 16, but m.2 should run at full x4 while keeping GPU at x16. The m.2 slot goes through the Z270 chipset. The 16 lanes for the 7600k are directly to the CPU.

Actually, the other slot below CPU is likely primary M.2 slot.

Clocks are still running at the same speeds as before.
Utilization swings between 65 and 85 percent though while gaming, which makes me think this is a pcie issue.

Also I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but in BIOS I cannot enable the m.2 drive to x4 - it keeps moving back to x2

I don't see that causing the issue. Either m.2 slot should run at x4 gen3 pcie. These should have no effect on GPU utilization. GPU lanes should remain at x16 either way, at least with single M.2 drive. What about benchmark scores and fps?

Rocket league for example before the ssd installation was running at 200+ fps.

Now it is running at 130 ish - large drop.

Also in userbenchmark, it notes that my m.2 drive is performing poorly - around 21st percentile

Very strange, but worth a shot to try other slot. I'd also look at link speed for GPU and SSD in the UEFI. May want to test the drive itself as well in benchmarks.

I switched slots - the drive is now in x4 mode but the gpu is still being affected.

UEFI should still show link speed for GPU. Bad SSD perhaps. What does SSD Magician say or benchmarks.

Okay. Gpu is running in x16 gen3 and the ssd is running at x4 speeds. No dice on rocket league, however.

Original ssd bench is from userbenchmark. Samsung magician is saying that read is at 2266 MBs and write is at 1443 mbs

Games on ssd or old drive? Did you install Samsung SSD driver, or use native Windows?

Sorry for late reply. You would download the Samsung driver from their website. Windows will install the native OS driver by default. You would be able to install the Samsung driver once OS is installed. Version 2.3 is the latest I believe. http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960evo/

Have you tried install the game on the HDD? Other games affected? UEFI updated to latest version?

UEFI is not updated and all games are affected.
