Hi
sorry if this is in the wrong place
I don’t really know what to do and only have a limited budget
I’ve currently got
Fx8350 on ASRock 970 board
16gb 1833mhz ram
Gtx960 2gb
240gb Ssd
I mainly play total war warhammer 2
But it gets a bit jumpy in big battles
And would like to know what I would gain the best from
I was looking at 1060 6gb card
Or
I3 8100
2x4gb ddr4 3000mhz
Msi z370a pro d4
Any help would be great
Thanks

Id recommend getting the i3 8100, mobo and ram first, then wait till volta releases and get the GTX xx60 then, which presumably will be much faster than the 1060 6gb and around the same price. The 8100 + GTX 960 would be able to run most games fine as the 960 is more or less the same as a GTX 1050 ti which is the current best budget card.

note that FX will not getting any future update in near time (as AMD going for AM4 socket til 2020)
going for AM4 will save you some bucks (by not changing mobo til 2020 for upgrading) (I don't know about the Intel new gens)

either way, its better if you can sell the FX (including motherboard and RAM) and add some bucks so you can get both your new 8100 set + 1060 6gb

answering your question,
getting 1060 6gb for your FX doesn't seems bad, might bottleneck in some apps
but i3 8100 runs fine with gtx 960 (more better if you can pair it with the 1060 6gb)
