Is it possible to mitigate microstuttering in PC games?

Solution

Microstutter is an inherent issue in multigpu systems. As long as your CPU isn't a bottleneck (which will just make it worse, but won't necessarily make it any better than whatever the best it could be), then you're going everything that can be done.

Would a Core i7 8700K bottleneck two-way SLI GTX 1080?

Not at all.

You will win synthetic FPS benchmarks with sli.
But you would game better by selling the two GTX1080 cards in favor of a single GTX1080ti
or whatever stronger shows up next.

Dual gpu can not be exactly synchronized resulting in some level of stuttering and screen tearing.
Some games do not support dual gpu at all.

I recommend just getting a single 1080ti. For the handfull of games released in the past 2 years that actually give you a 30% performance increase (with common sli issues of course) it's not worth it at all.
