I am trying to build my first pc for gaming purposes with a budget of around $1000, (pc only) but I’m pretty clueless as to what are some good parts for it. All I have picked right now are the cpu and fan, though I have a few questions/thoughts.

CPU: Intel-core i5-8600K is that maybe overkill for a gaming pc? Do you think the i5 cpu is better than the i7 when it comes to gaming? That’s what a friend told me.

CPU Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

mobo: I am looking for a decent one that will not be outdated right away. I know there are different sizes so will a ATX have more space between parts and thus better ventilation? (depending on this I will choose the mobo and case size)

GPU:I’m looking for one that will play recent games with high quality graphics and doesn’t bottleneck with the CPU

Ram:8 or 16 Gb? What else do I need to know/want???

Storage: I hear SSD is the way to go, is that true? I might go with a 250 and add more later if needed.

PSU:I suppose It will depend on power consumption.

This is the list of what I have at the moment https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wQFdyf

I apologize for making such a long post but I will appreciate any advice and recommendations you can give me.

Great. Huge budget but not many parts known. The i5 is not any better, but not much worse so if you want that's the way to go. Otherwise I would go with AMD and get a Ryzen 5. I'll make 2 mini-ITX builds right here.

Ryzen 5 1600 $220
GTX 1070-$450
AM4 Mini ITX MOBO$ 120 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157780&cm_re=AM4_ITX-_-13-157-780-_-Product
$120
An 16GB kit from newegg $175
You can decide on SSD, case, and PSU.

I5-8700k-$##
Mini-ITX MOBO $200
Everything else from the upper build is the same. Good luck. Also I would go with the Ryzen build. The Cooler is fine but with that budget you can watercool.
Cooler Master Masterliquid 120, is pretty good.

Intel build. A bit over budget but worth it.

Ventilation will really just depend on the case you chose and how the cooling is set up. ATX is the way to go.
