Hello i want to buy a external hdd for storage im gonna use it in home so size dont matter but the question is

3.5 drives is more reliable and have more life span than 2.5 drives ?

Solution
I don't know of any good studies on that question, but in my experience notebook drives tend to last about as long as full size 3.5 inch drives. The care of the drive is probably more important.

I would choose based on convenience of use, if you need to move it around 2.5 is nicer. If you need a large amount of space then a 3.5 would make more sense, say 3-4TB or more.

If you go with a 3.5 inch HERE is the best available collection of information on drive life expectations, of course individual drives vary.

As for reliable they are about the same, I would say the 2.5 drives are a bit more fragile or less likely to be able to survive a drop. But as mentioned, if you need the space, the 3.5inch drives are the way to go. I have noticed personally that high capacity 2.5 drives tend to slow down over time faster than the high capacity 3.5inch drive.
