R6400 Netgear Resetting Randomly

Hi all

I'm new here but I've searched this extensively and can't seem to find anything that matches my problem.

My R6400 resets on it's own.

My setup is non-fibre, and so I have a Sky SR102 with wifi turned off and no DHCP. I have the R6400 connected via this.

I have changed plugs, and changed the AC power supply and so I am happy this is not the route of the problem.

The R6400 only seems to reset when both myself and my girlfriend are in the house so it's possibly related to the number of devices. Moreover, when we turn off wifi on phones and laptops and limit it to just the Sky box and PS4 it generally reduces the number of resets, further backing my number of devices theory.

My other theory, which relates to number of devices is that I have QoS turned on (as I'm a gamer). Our internet is pretty poor with a max of 600kbs upload on a good day. QoS I have set to 400kbs, but if I reduce this when I run speed test on my laptop I literally get 0.00 upload, and if I increase it my PS4 starts lagging, BUT it does again seem to help reduce the number of resets.

I am at a loss to be honest as I don't see why these would cause a router to reset, or if it's just coincidence. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

By Resets I mean the equivalent of turning it off and on - So yeah all connections reset, but only because the router literally turns off.

Routers easily support many more devices than you are using. Most time if you try to use too many wireless devices you just get poor performance the router does not actually reset.

It almost has to be a software bug. I would try different firmware and see if that fixes it.

The QoS put a lot of burden on a router...especially if you configure something fancy. It should not though cause the router to crash unless there is a software bug in the QoS code. Most times it is related to how much traffic so with a small connection you likely are not passing enough traffic for qos to slow you down.

Thanks for your help, firmware did not fix the problem, I reinstalled the previous firmware and the problem persists.

In fact it reset itself 3 times while I was trying to send this reply.

Any other suggestions?!!!
