So I have a Galaxy S7 that has been recently damaged beyond repair but the system still works and I would like to get my files off the device but the screen doesn't work at all. When I plug it into my computer the phone shows up but once you click on it it'll say that the file is empty, I've looked around a people said that the device needs to be unlcocked first. Is there any way I can get around this, Again the screen does not work.

I've been told if you install the complete Android SDK onto your computer there are some developer tools in it that allow you to read the drive on the phone directly. Having never done this myself I'm afraid that's all the help I can be.

Really? It's against the rules? As a mod I thought I would have known that. He's not talking about getting around a password, he's talking about a broken screen and not being able to tell the phone to connect to the PC. There is a HUGE difference. Lets leave the moderating to those of us who have "moderator" as a title ok?

Wouldn't he still need to press the "connect to PC" thing that pops up when the USB cable gets plugged in? My S6 doesn't auto connect like some phones, I have to tell it to connect. I was hoping he would reply with more info, but instead everyone wants to jump on him. Thanks.

What's the difference between "It is mine, I just cannot unlock it" and "I stole it / found it in the park, and want to unlock it so I can use it"? Are you personally sure (GEEK moderator or not) it's a broken screen?

Guess what? I'm the mod here. I'm doing something on purpose here, you other people are just crapping on this guys thread. If you have an issue with it, use the alert function. That's what it's for. You don't get to come in here and tell the OP that he's violating the rules. THERE IS ALREADY A MOD HERE. And I'm fully capable of telling him we don't help with getting past lock screens. I know our policies, I know what to do. If you think something wrong is happening, use the alert. Otherwise I'm asking/telling you people to move on. Now.

The bottom line is, if a mod says it's not in violation of the rules, it's not in violation of the rules. And that's not some kind of "power trip", it's simply that we are HERE to enforce the rules, so if we say it's good, it's good. I doesn't need to ever go further than that. It's great that members try to follow the rules and let us know when somebody isn't, or inform somebody that something might be a violation, but once one of us is in the thread, that should be the end of any member trying to take it any further.

As always, if there is something you don't agree with you can feel free to contact one of the community staff members, but I can tell you that they are going to tell you exactly the same thing I just did. So, unless you have something to contribute it's probably advisable to let the GEEK do what geeks do.
