Enabling SLI crashes Nvidia CP

Whenever I try to enable SLI for my GTX 970's my Nvidia Control Panel crashes and I have to reinstall the drivers and restart. Very annoying. I've been playing a game called Star Citizen lately which unfortunately doesn't support sli as if right now.

If you are playing a game which doesn't support SLI why would you enable SLI?

Also is your power supply sufficient to power a pair of relatively power hungry 970's?

i enabled sli after i finish playing the games, also yes i've checked my psu can work with my current rig
