i built a custom PC a couple years ago, and I was playing games when my PC crashed by the screen going black but the PC staying running. My PC powers on with all lights and fans spinning, but does not display to my monitor when using my GPU. Additionally, if i connect all my peripherals (mouse, keyboard, headset, USB Xbox controller, and audio input) they do not get enough power to work. However, if only my monitor, mouse, and keyboard are plugged in, my mouse and keyboard light up but still no display to my monitor. Only two of my three GPU fans spin like they should when powered on with the third on starting to spin but stopping after a second or two. If i disconnect my GPU from my PSU (but leave it in the motherboard) my computer boots up fine using my on-board graphics and functions normally.
SPECS:
CPU- Intel i5-4690k
MOBO: MSI Z97-GD65
RAM: 4x8gb G.Skill Ripjaws
GPU: Sapphire Tri-x Radeon R9 290x 4gb gddr5
PSU: Rosewill ARC 750W
Here's what i've done myself to try to fix this:
Check all connections, (internal and external)
Connect my brother's less powerful GPU to my PC (PC worked fine with it)
reset CMOS (by removing battery for a couple minutes)
Remove all hardware except CPU, PSU, and GPU (PC turned on but no display still)
After talking to some friends and researching similar problems online, I've decided I have a dead PSU, GPU, or MOBO, and i'm not certain how to determine which one if this is the issue.
