First- I live in the country and we have only 1 option for internet- and its pretty awful. I am lucky to get 15Mbps on a good day. The internet is LTE based, and the receiver is installed outside, and runs inside to my home where I am using an ARCHER c7- I get pretty good coverage inside my house- despite having a 4400 SQ ft home with a metal roof.

However, I built a man cave in the Barn, and I need to build out something to get internet out to it. I have been researching this for a few weeks and reading as much as I can- but part of that is to seek out some advice as to what would YOU do if you have to do this.

Honestly, I would use it to stream some football games onto the TV in the man cave etc, and probably not use it for anything too extensive, and since I have pretty bad speed to begin with, most of the options I have found are pretty expensive.

Solution
You have two options:
1/ Dig a trench between the two buildings and install direct burial ethernet cable.
2/ Install a point to point wireless link between the two buildings.

Depending if you have any farm equipment option 1 will be cheaper.

Option 2 requires 2 bits of kit, one on the exterior of your house, hardwired back to your router and then one on the exterior of the barn, hardwired to a wireless router/switch or just your TV.

It looks like you have a clear line of sight between the two buildings, if they are more than 100m apart option 1 is slightly more complicated.

So the issue with wires- is that the router location that I have now- is basically as far away as possible from the barn- its on the opposite side of the house. I do have power lines running with poles already- and i thought about using those to string a wire and then run the cable all the way to the barn- the picture on here is old but they came out and run new poles and lines to the barn to power it up- Only problem is, I'm pretty sure its far longer away than the max distance (100m) if I use the poles.

I used google maps measurement tools and the router is well over 100M away from the barn. I have to place the router right at the place that it is, because thats where the internet company installed the POE and drop into my living room. Without having them re-install the whole set up- it is hard to do this with just running wire.

I assume I could get another router- that I use as an access point- and then run the wire from there? Even that wouldn't be ideal-

Right now, I am sorta stuck- one option involves running wire as far as I can, and then getting an outdoor router from there- something like that?

Talk to me about Option 2....

I would look at a couple of Ubiquiti LocoM2 and set up a point to point link (or similar, I have no affiliation to Ubiquiti)

Looks like there is a dealer IN MY TOWN (crazy, i would not have ever expected that in Lubbock, TX) I found their contact on the Ubiquiti page and I sent them an email- maybe someone will come out to the house and look at what i got and help me with a solution. Thanks for pointing me at them.

No problem!
