I have folder that completely disappeared from external hard drive. I used it and a few minutes later went back and it was gone. At first I thought I accidentally moved or deleted. Looked everywhere for it including recycle bin and didn't find. Searched the web and this site for answers and the most common issue that cause this is that the file gets hidden. Followed direction to show hidden files. Including unchecking hide protected operating system files and still didn't find it. Also did a virus scan of the drive. I used Recuva software and it did find the file in the exact location it's supposed to be.However it says it's unrecoverable. Tried EaseUS data recovery tool and if also found the file. It does show a status but I have to purchase the software if I want to recover.
So my questions are. What happened to this file for it to suddenly disappear? Is there any free software out there that can recover it? If not and I have to use EaseUS Data recovery what's to say it will be recoverable. I assume a paid software is better than a free one> I just don't want to $70.00 for a software that I will likely only use for it so sorry your file can't be recovered after I already paid for it.
