Can you pair a single 4gb DDR3 stick with a 4gb stick that has been used as dual channel?

I have a 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 memory kit, and one of the sticks unfortunately malfunctioned. I was wondering if I could, instead of buying another 2x4 kit, buy a single 4gb stick and pair it with the one working stick I already have.
Thank you

Yes you can, but there are some issues that you have to keep in mind.

1)You have to get a RAM stick that should have almost the same specs as your current RAM.

2)You have to manually tweak the RAM settings in the BIOS and all the sticks should work at the speed and timings of the slowest RAM stick.

3)You may face some compatibility issues like blue screens, crashes etc.

So you'll decide whether you can live with those issues and how capable you are in dealing with them.
