Anyone has benchmarked this CPU on the potential impact of a micro code update? According to this article: https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/9/16868290/microsoft-meltdown-spectre-firmware-updates-pc-slowdown Microsoft has warned people using Haswell or older about the potential impacts on their systems should they choose to use or install the patch. MS even warned server owners of the slow down which runs contrary to what intel stated earlier that the loses will be minimal.

Right now... I have the 3770k and planning on upgrading the gpu to a 1080 or 1080ti soon... if I bloody install this patch it would seriously bottleneck my CPU even more. Now I come to this community to seek help... SHOULD I UPDATE MY BIOS AND MICRO CODE OR NOT?

I don't think anyone is going to hack me just because I have a crap ton of P*rn collection

KB 4056894 monthly roundup, dont install that just yet, hide it. Get your gpu and enjoy it and forget this crap.

I have 2600k and 920 systems with win 7, update is set to hidden on both. Not going to worry about it and wait.

right now no one really knows much of anything, and everyone is talking in generalities and hedging their bets. Fact is, there is nothing you can do about it anyway. There are going to be an entire series of patches from Microsoft, Intel, AMD, IBM, the BIOS/UEFI and motherboard makers and probably my great aunt Bertha. You are going to be more at-risk by not updating everything as it comes out than if you don't. The first patches will be cludges, but they'll get better as they go along, and eventually everyone will wonder what all the worry was about (remember Y2K...).

You will not notice a slow down in your little gaming system because nothing you do with it hammers the cause of the problem. Servers do, and they are going to suffer.

I think I should wait for official benchmarks before installing the update. If it hampers my 3770k into a useless state like the performance of my old intel Pentium D 2180 with horrible bottlenecks then to hell with the security updates
