ASRock Motherboard Z97 Extreme with a Intel i5-4690 CPU socket 1150. Can I upgrade the CPU to an i7 5th gen 4Ghz 1150 socket without having to reload the win7 pro OS and all the programs again, and just upgrade the BIOS to the new CPU functions without messing any thing up like losing boot up, start ups and loading of other programs and other functions????? And how would this be done and the procedures to follow to get it done?????

The Extreme4 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/z97%20extreme4/#CPU) & Extreme6 (https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme6/#CPU) both support the 5th-generation Broadwell CPUs...but I wouldn't recommend them, as the particular supported CPUs (i5-5675C, i7-5775C) look like they wouldn't be any improvement (& might actually drop given their lower clocks).

Since you're already using a Haswell Refresh (call it "4th+" generation) CPU, make sure your BIOS version is at least P1.30, & then get the i7-4790K & a decent cooler. That'll give you twice the threads, faster stock clocks, & you'd be able to overclock it.

Motherboard states will support 4th and 5th gen CPUs i3 to i7 but which is the best fitting i7 for faster Mhz change out from the i5 for the ASRock Z97 extreme 6 with DDR3 memory
